Progress Report: September 2026

The work has not slowed since Lloyd closed its doors in August. Here are a few of the key things we’ve been focused on:

  • Because of your moving testimonies, we’ve gained the attention and support of several city councilors. These relationships are helping us open doors to find opportunities to collaborate with organizations like Prosper Portland to secure a new location, and discuss ways the City can be a partner in finding temporary ice for displaced skaters and coaches.

  • We’ve identified over 20 potential sites for a temporary or permanent rink, and we’re constantly looking for more. Having these locations scoped helps our potential donors envision the future and gives partners a concrete framework to build from the ground up.

  • We partnered with another nonprofit, Oregon Rinks Initiative, which strives to construct more rinks across the entire state. Together, we’re able to gather the resources needed to put up a new rink in a fraction of the time.

  • To facilitate large charitable contributions, we’ve applied for 501c(3) status. Soon, BISC will be able to accept tax exempt donations.
